Mairead is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, who works with grief, anxiety, depression, suicide and relationship difficulties. She specialises in the area of addiction and has worked in a rehabilitation centre where the programme is twelve weeks. She has supported residents during detox, facilitated groups and also one to one counselling. Mairead also works with families who have been affected by the addiction of a loved one.
Maireads approach means that when she sits with a person in addiction she doesn't see an ' addict, but rather she sees someone who is in a lot of pain and she is of the firm belief that we all have an inner strength which we are not aware of but which can be tapped into when all else has failed.
Mairead studied psychotherapy for 4 years at the Castlebar counselling & therapy centre, she then went on to further her studies, specialising in addiction studies in Gallilee House of studies in Athy where she graduated in 2014. Mairead has studied the dynamics of addiction within the family which she has a particular interest in.
